Pistachios are the dried fruits of a tree originating in the mountain ranges of Wes-Asian region. Dry climates with cool winters are the ideal place for pistachios to grow. Pistachio orchards are in the United States, Syria, Turkey, Iran and China. It can take almost eight years for a first major crop, but once production starts these trees continue to bear fruit for centuries. The seed of the fruit is the edible part, and they grow similar to a grape cluster.
